On ride home from Hampton, VA this weekend, Limited Credit Boy asked an important question.
How do we get this portable grill:
to Ryan Field (home of Northwestern Football):

Luckily, Southwest has a whole page devoted to eligible baggage policies:
Including this great section:
Under the Flammable Materials section is or answer:
Luckily, our grill uses compressed propane; therefore, it is allowed. Since we can remove the propane canister from our grill, we SHOULD be able to bring it. Why I say should is that it says "conditionally accepted as checked. My call to Southwest resulted in the agent reading me this phrase word for word. When I pressed her on what "conditionally accepted" means, she had never seen this phrase anywhere else.
Our plan is to check the portable grill and buy the gas canisters at Walmart. They can be purchased at Walmart/Target/KMart in the camping section for less than $10.

The airport on Friday will be a nail bitter until we know if they will let the grill on the plane. If they don't, we will find something at Walmart to make it work. A tailgate isn't a tailgate without grilled food!
Has anyone ever check a portable grill with Southwest or any other airline?
