UPDATE 2: The bill has passed the House and is on its way to the president for his signature.
UPDATE: The House of Representatives is currently debating a measure to end the furloughs as well. Votes are expected this morning.
Air travelers have been experiencing delays all week after furloughs of air traffic controllers due to mandated government cuts, called the sequester went into full force this week. Many airports, especially on the east coast, saw huge delays as controllers had to space out aircraft enough to deal with a reduced number of controllers to handel them and delays built up from there.
Well, the United States Senate has had enough of that. I think that's because some of them had trouble getting into DC this week for votes and didn't want delays on their weekly flights...but maybe they do really care about our flights as well. Last night the Senate passed a bill to allow the FAA to transfer $253 million from other accounts to provide a stop gap of the funds that were taken away from the sequester.
The House of Representatives is in session tomorrow, but as of now the measure is not on their schedule. But the Washington Post, in the above article concerning the Senate bill, believes they will take up the bill as early as Friday.
So...these delays may end up only being a week or so in nature.
